The overall purpose of our organization.

LDCAN is a core group of individuals whose collaboration supports and administers to the concept of LEAD programs across the United States.
The people making up this group, through their individual efforts, have modeled successful programs based on the LEAD concept developed by Al Pocock and his students at Cheyene Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, CO.
LDCAN is here to share information and resources to help you start a LEAD program.  You begin by determining which type of program you would like to start and the contact the appropriate LDCAN member.

Organization Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to increase the awareness of our common interests-- students with disabilities that impact learning-- through the establishment of LEAD programs in schools, communities, and at conferences. We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand. We also want to have fun when we're together and working on projects. By developing relationships and friendships, the organization will become even stronger.  This becomes a powerful foundation for students with disabilities that impact learning.

Our Mission

Our mission is to further promote the interests of our organization and the students, people, and communities we serve. We strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding our outreach efforts.

Working together as members of LDCAN, we have the strength to make a difference. We can work toward providing information and training to parents, community members, teachers, and other professionals who work with students whose disabilities impact learning.  We must continue to insist that students with disabilities that impact learning receive the appropriate support, services, accommodations, modifications, and programs to enable them to lead happy, productive lives.

Become a member of our team by joining LDCAN and promoting LEAD today.

The community-based LEAD program is about creating, establishing, and providing opportunities and experiences for students that more than likely they will not receive in school.  In particular, those opportunities and experiences that are essential for a successful transition from grade to grade and from high school into postsecondary education or employment.

The secret of education is respecting the pupil.   Ralph Waldo Emerson
